Work History

Senior Consultant Engineer

Factory Mutual Insurance Company
01.2006 - 04.2022
  • I assisted clients in Australia and New Zealand, many of who are in the Fortune 1000 to improve their risk and become more resilient against fire and natural hazard losses such as flood, brushfires and hurricanes. This not only protected the client's assets but also the Australian and New Zealand Industry and public sector, protecting jobs and improving human safety for workers.
  • I utilised risk, loss prevention and consulting knowledge on a range of existing and Greenfield client projects. The assessments were used to assist clients with mitigating risk of property loss and interruptions to their business operations from project conception.
  • In 2010, I came first in the Australian Operations in achieving the highest risk improvement quota for risk reduction for our clients.
  • In 2013, I assisted the Australian Operations to achieve their risk improvement objective by encouraging their clients located in flood prone land with high flood loss expectancies to implement flood emergency response plans for the first time. The document I provided contained beneficial information specifically tailored for their sites. By consulting with clients on-site and following up with them, I was training them to take a proactive approach to risk improvement and this in turn helped them meet their business objectives to remain profitable.
  • During 2020 and 2021 when we were in lockdown, I provided consulting and training to clients using online platforms to assist them with improving the awareness of risks to property and actions to take to mitigate/minimise the risk. I assisted clients with their projects too.
  • I conducted loss visits and prepared reports on my findings on sites that experienced a fire loss.
  • I assisted clients by finding fire protection valves that had been closed or defunct fire pumps that would prevent water reaching sprinklers.

The project was a joint venture between Sifang, a sugar refiner and British Foods, the parent company of AB Mauri. I worked with local professionals and contractors to deliver a valuable asset to China, which also generated jobs for the local people.
  • The work I did included designing process equipment, ergonomic design of the packaging area, preparation of tenders and contracts, purchasing equipment and instruments, shipping goods and control of inventory. I worked on-site from October to December 2004.
