Work History

Youth Worker/Career & Education Advisor

Youth Projects
06.2022 - 09.2024
  • Company Overview: Youth Projects is a not-for-profit organisation that is government funded in a Transition to Work Program – which is designed for 15–24-year old’s in the progression from mainstream school to either full time study and/or steady employment.
  • Youth Projects is Youth Focused, we offer more to our young people emerging into a new and possibly overwhelming part of life, so it isn’t so daunting, all the while giving them skills to manage on a day to day to basis.
  • In my role as a Youth Worker, I had a client base of up to 75 and with them all being from very different backgrounds, with very different experiences and behaviours I adapted an approach to suit everyone.
  • I became their Mentor on different levels over the period they were with me and used my Counselling Skills to guide them in the right direction, my approach is holistic as well as pragmatic, client centred, solution focused and strength building. I offered advice and used self-disclosure on occasions which I found helped my clients feel like they were not alone and that everyone of all ages and situations have at some stage in their life navigated challenging waters.
  • Ensuring my young people are receiving the emotional and social support that they need, by engaging them with others in organised activities and referring them to services that may further help them.
  • Helping them navigate through life’s ups and downs and build positive, strong and constructive relationships and trusting wholesome friendships.
  • I always ask my clients about their life, where they are at and how they are feeling at their session with me – just with this age group, life can be so overwhelming and acceptance is something we all juggle with and sometimes can be greater than they can handle.
  • Presentations of my clients who are experiencing challenging, Social and Family environments, can greatly impact the way they see themselves and their abilities, examining their barriers and building a rapport to hopefully break down those barriers completely or at least compartmentalise them into small manageable ones
  • Tasks:
  • Case Management and Referrals to various Community Organisations for example Headspace and Grow Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services, Community Groups, Support Groups, Educational Services and Vocational Programs
  • Intensively working with disengaged and trauma affected youth.
  • Collaborating with families, carers, educators, and communities.
  • Entering detailed case notes for every individual client.
  • Liaising with parents and carers for clients who are minors.
  • Event planning to further help the disengaged.
  • Organising and conducting workshops for clients centred around confidence boosting activities, dealing with nerves and anxiety, resume and cover letter writing skills.
  • Keeping calendar entries up to date and maintaining follow up’s with clients with extra needs on a more regular basis.
  • Providing guidance, care and understanding to my clients as they may have no other adult figure in their life.
  • Engage with my clients direct family members if needed in order to receive that extra layer of support.
