Booking into Laboratory information management system (Sample manager from Thermo Scientific) Organising send away samples to be sent appropriately to referring laboratories. Entering of request forms into LIMS system of Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
Microbiology Department – Routine specimen processing of laboratory specimens including streaking of plates from swabs, urines, fluids, and Faeces. Microscopy of urines and gram stains. Reading plates and identifying bacteria through gram stain, biochemical tests such as Catalase, Indole and oxidase testing as well as further ID using Rapid ID kits from REMEL ID systems Rapid ONE, NF, STR and ANA and Strep grouping kits. Setting up sensitivities as requested. Entering results into system and sending out reports.
Administration –Following up on send away results, generating reports, sending results to clients. Procuring invoices to be paid at end of each month. Creating statements for clients’ invoices to pay. Retrieving Data from LIMS system for general statistics throughout year.
Startup – Morning startup of wet lab machines, including maintenance, running, checking, and troubleshooting controls.
Parasitology – Setting up and reading Faecal egg counting for Sheep cattle and horses. Also setting up small animals (Dogs and Cats) reading and sending out final reports in a timely fashion. Setting up giardia kits and Calf scours kits reading and sending reports. Making saturated sodium chloride, sodium magnesium for the purpose of egg floatation.
Research – Parasitology “Lifting the Limits” assisting with the collection of raw data of faecal egg counts for Riverina area.
