  • As the PICU was seeing a surge in complex patients with an increasing LOS, an additional 0.6FTE position was created with the aim to support the 1.0FTE CNC.
    This led to an improvement in the CNC service for PICU with the ability to increase the CNC patient load and improved service throughout the PICU journey and increased provision of family centered collaborative care amongst a larger population of PICU in-patients.
  • I was able to provide clinical consultancy to include pre-admission planning for patients and families with complex needs. Improved clinical support for a greater number of complex and chronic PICU patients during their admission.
  • Consolidation of comprehensive care planning. Under the two POD PICU model of care the patient allocation was able to be divided and my allocated portfolio was POD 1 which included complex cardiac patients, Trauma and Burns.
  • I was able to participate in research, quality and safety and education. With the implementation of multiple quality improvement projects e.g.: Empathic survey, Complex Decision-making tool, SAWD – scores and pump implementation. I was integral in the commencement and continuation of analgesia and sedation weaning plans within PICU, I have refined the process for MDT meetings to allow them to run smoothly.
  • I have run the complex care weekly meeting within PICU and facilitated many family meetings, transfers to Bear cottage and supported families with EOL care.
  • I have been able to develop professional relationships with network CNC’s and contribute to successful discharge planning onto the wards. This in turn has seen a decrease in the number of IIMS reports from PICU discharges.
