As a RANZCOG Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, I am a dedicated doctor who has sought every opportunity to optimize clinical and professional skill acquisition for specialist obstetrics and gynaecology practice. Having undergone advanced training in both advanced gynaecological surgery and maternal fetal medicine, I am highly skilled and experienced across the specialty. Through participation in research, risk management processes, teaching and recruitment, I have strived to gain the full complement of skills required for excellence in women's health care. I am currently a staff specialist in O&G at the Royal Hospital for Women, and after recent completion of the ten year moratorium, I have begun private practice with Alana Healthcare and at Prince of Wales Private hospital.
I have an enduring commitment to undergraduate and post graduate O&G teaching, as demonstrated by my experience. My UNSW conjoint lecturer position allows for regular medical student teaching and supervision, including marking of literature reviews and examiner. In 2018, I was responsible for the RHW JMO teaching program, organizing speakers and topics and ensuring pager protection. I am a regular volunteer for hospital and RANZCOG mock OSCE examinations, and was a facilitator for Academia Medical OSCE preparation course. I am committed to surgical education, a past convener of the RANZCOG NSW Foundations of Surgery Course, and convener for the most recent Advanced Laparoscopy Workshop at the 2023 RANZCOG symposium.
As an undergraduate, I received the University of Glasgow Alexander Bryce Essay Prize for my dissertation on the hypothesis of fetal origins of adult disease, and was also short listed for the Lancet International Health Essay Prize for the my retrospective study on Zimbabwean torture survivors and review of evidence to support reparation. In 2017, I was awarded the RHW staff contribution award for my commitment to services at the Royal Hospital for Women. In 2018, I was awarded the UNSW student's choice teacher award. I received the 2020 AGES/AAGL exchange lecture award for my presentation on the RCT of bladder care following non hysterectomy gynaecological laparoscopy, and was an invited speaker to the 2020 AAGL Global Congress. I received the award for best Fellow presentation at the 2020 RHW research presentation day for my study on Australian gynaecology surgical profile and volume and impact on training and practice.
I further developed my leadership and management skills as senior registrar, including roster management of 20 JMOs, participation in JMO recruitment and assisting with the challenges of performance review and management of junior colleagues. During 2020, I also took an active role in helping to adapt RHW clinical services as a result of Covid-19.
In 2017 and 2018, I was part of the RHW Maternity Quality and Safety Committee, and was involved and engaged in hospital processes in preparation for accreditation. Throughout this time, I was also a member of the RHW Intrapartum Trigger Committee which involved a weekly meeting and working within a MDT to review adverse events. I gained experience in liaising with staff involved, handling issues and concerns sensitively, preparation of SAC reports, and presentation of findings at hospital grand rounds. I was also lead clinician for the Antenatal and Acute Care Risk Management Committee. I developed this experience by becoming an observer and then current active member of the Clinical Excellence Commission's Perinatal and Maternal RCA Committee.
I am an active member of the Gynaecology Research and Clinical Evaluation Group, and have participated in randomized controlled trials, assisted in review and construction of scientific papers and grant applications.
