The aim of this research is to understand the barriers that women of Māori and PI backgrounds face when
accessing antenatal care in Victoria. Additionally, factors that enable these women to attend their antenatal
care appointments will also be explored. This understanding will inform the development of future policy and practice guidelines that support the engagement of women from Māori and PI backgrounds with
antenatal care.

  • The Role-player is responsible for supporting the delivery of certification tests for potential interpreters
    as required by playing the role of an English or language other than English (LOTE) speaker. The
    engagement of the role-player in certification tests must be in accordance with the attached Role-player
    Guidelines.
    Key Responsibilities:
    The Role-player’s responsibilities include:
    1. Participate in interpreter testing in accordance with guidelines provided.
    2. Engage in training as required to ensure comprehensive understanding of the Role-player role and
    function.
    3. Work in a collegiate manner to ensure effective delivery and administration of tests.
    4. Foster and contribute to a positive working relationships with colleagues and clients.
    5. Report any issues or problems to the test supervisor.
    6. Contribute to a positive and effective team environment.
    7. Contribute to the development of a positive public image of NAATI.
    8. Where applicable, and qualified to do so, act as a practice (mock) interpreter.

    The Role-player will be required to attend the requisite training, and may be required to travel (at NAATI’s
    expense) to deliver testing in other states or territories, including in some regional or remote areas.
