Team Leader CL&SS

For the past 15 plus years I have been working in the CFMHS service. This unit consists of many teams that cover many areas such as: corrections, community, court liaison and transition to community. My role in the team provides cultural support and guidance across the teams.

Provide individual cultural support and advocacy to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People accessing clinical services delivered by the CFMHS area

I ensure that first nation consumers understand their treatment plan, as well as building rapport and supporting my clinical team to ensure a smoother culturally safe environment while assessing first nation consumers.

Provide professional/cultural supervision and/or peer support to Mental Health Service Group Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Clinicians as required

Regular monthly supervision and debriefing with my team ensures that the cogs are running in our unit. It also highlights gaps and what support is needed to better improve our service delivery.

Provide strategic direction to the Mental Health Service Group to ensure clinical services delivered to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people are undertaken in a culturally safe and responsive manner and align with relevant policy direction.

Team leaders have a direct link to District coordinator and program manager of ATSIWAES. Through our team leader meetings we discuss whats happening in our teams.

Each team leader discusses issues, KPI's and any other relevant information for the program manager to raise at exec meetings.

· Provide management of a work team in line with contemporary HR management practices and team workload management.

As a current Team Leader we have regular contacts with HR and workforce management. This helps guide us in any HR issues or support in regards to work life balance.

· Actively engage professional and community networks and associations to promote and maintain knowledge skills and relationships.

Part of my role is to have a close connection with community government/non government. This enhances service delivery and builds strong links within our community. It helps staying connected and updated at a grass root level.
