Camp Staff

YMCA Camp Whittle
06.2024 - 08.2024
  • I worked as camp staff for a summer camp in California over their summer period, which allowed me to meet new people, get out of my comfort zone and work with some amazing people and children, just to name a few
  • Skills this taught me and allowed me to work on were initiative in self-lead roles, public speaking confidence, organisation to allow me to be punctual for activities, communicating to a wide range of individuals from really young kids, to teenagers and other adults, work on engaging those groups as well when running activities to keep them interested and participating, as well as continuing my teamwork and leadership skills within the role alongside my coworkers in large and small groups
  • I also learnt to adapt to change quickly and think on the spot to produce successful outcomes
  • I’m already quite emotionally intelligent and compassionate, but learning about different people/children and the lives they have allowed me to grow in patience and empathy
  • I also learnt, as a 25 year old, to be a kid again, and not take myself too seriously, to get the job done while also allowing fun in the workplace and having a laugh with my coworkers and the kids that came up to camp, which I think is a very valuable skill that I aim to bring back to workplaces in Australia
