Registered Nurse with 15 years of experience in direct patient care and nursing management positions in hospital settings. Experienced in mental health, Particularly older adult mental health. Passionate about providing programs and services in support of growth and healing for patients with mental health issues. Active listener with direct communication style and compassionate, non-judgmental approach to build patient trust and rapport. Outside-the-box thinker with strong crisis resolution skills.
Education: As is the requirement for registration as a nurse in Australia I regularly update my current professional development through updating my knowledge with courses and online learning. I do this by updating my mandatory learning annually and also other courses to improve my professional knowledge. Examples of these are drug and alcohol comorbidity training, wound care, aboriginal culture etc Interests and hobbies:
Initial assessment of patients referred to the service to determine the type and urgency of the response.
Presenting of cases to the team for discussion and allocation to appropriate case manager if required.
I have been employed at Armadale Kelmscott memorial hospital since 2012. I have further developed my experience and knowledge and skills that I acquired to this area. I have been able to acquire my knowledge base in mental health in Australia, the mental health act 2014 and the different treatment options at different settings in perth and rural areas of western Australia
I was initially employed as a registered nurse on the older adult mental health unit. In July 2012 I was given a contract as acting clinical nurse and in 2014 I applied for and got the position as clinical nurse. My position as clinical nurse involves managing and leading the team through effectively managing shifts starting with the allocation of staff. I do this keeping in mind the minimum number of staff required, the skill mix required and the level of experience available to provide support to junior staff. As shift coordinator I can effectively lead staff, delegate supervision, ensure the safe management of workload and meet patients needs.
On this unit I was responsible for delivering a high quality of care for clients suffering with dementia on an individualised basis through the ongoing assessment of needs, planning of care and implementation of care plans, emphasising on improving the quality of life for the clients and offering support and advice to clients, carers and families. Part of this also involved providing education to the clients, carers and families on the clients diagnosis and care needs so that they could make informed decisions on their care.
