- explaining procedures to patients and their families, addressing concerns and answering questions.
- provide instructions for pre-procedure preparation, such as dietary restrictions or medication adjustments.
- ensuring patients understand what to expect during and after the procedure.
Patient Assessment, Monitoring and Care During Procedures
- assessing vital signs (BP, heart rate, temperature).
- performing physical examinations to assess patient conditions
- monitoring patients under sedation if required.
- administering medications, including IV injections as needed.
- assisting with various diagnostic tests ( blood or urine tests, X-rays, scans etc.)
-ensure proper functioning of of medical equipment for diagnostic tests.
- collecting and handling specimens for laboratory testing.
- providing emotional support and comfort to patients.
Post Procedure Care and Management
-monitoring patients for any immediate complications or adverse reactions.
-providing pain management and assistance with personal care needs.

Responsibilities:
Monitoring and Assessment
- round the clock monitoring of vital signs including heart rate, respiratory rate, O2 saturations and temperature.
Medication Administration
-administer medications including fluids like TPN and lipids prescribed by the neonatologist.
Specialised Feeding
-skilled in inserting and providing NGT, OGT or breastfeeding support, depending on the infant's needs.
Respiratory Support
- proficient in assisting and managing babies with respiratory support like CPAP, HI Flow and Low flow Oxygen needed by baby as ordered by neonatologist.
Infection Control
- implement strict infection control measures to protect vulnerable infants including handwashing technique and PPE done ae required during any procedure.
- maintain a sterile environment needed during a procedure
-implement visitor policy
Documentation
- meticulously document all aspects of the infant's care including assessment, intervention and outcomes.
Family Support
- provides emotional support and education to the infant's families, helping them understand the infant's condition and participate in their care.
Collaboration
- work well with multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
Discharge Planning
- ensure baby is ready to go home.
- helps family arrange referrals with other services which may include baby's follow up care
Most cases handled includes: Respiratory Distress syndrome, Transient Tachypnoea of Newborn, Infant of Diabetic Mother, Meconium Aspiration Syndrome, Birth injuries, Neonatal sepsis, Congenital Abnormalities, NEC, Chronic Lung Disease, Phototherapy lights / ABO/RH Incompatibility, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, LBW, IUGR, Pre Term, PDA.
