This job has taught me to really think on the spot under high pressure with it being in such a remote Alpine environment where parts are not readily accessible. My main role here has been maintaining a variety of chair lifts on the ski field, along with fresh water and wastewater systems, fire alarm servicing and testing, motor swap outs and control wiring upgrades, commercial kitchens, and general maintenance.
At any given point we are required to attend to faults these are generally high-pressure situations with members of the public on chair lifts. This role also had me training a 2nd year electrical apprentice.
My role at Kinetic Electrical has taught me a lot of new skills with the large variety of jobs ive been involved in, everything from small domestic jobs up to some large project work in factories. Some of our larger Jobs included a full automation upgrade of a cardboard processing plant that took place over 6 months, along with a brand new Methane gas plant constructed by the New Zealand government. Other daily tasks included Aircon installs, Pump replacements and fault finding on farms and wastewater treatment plants, CCTV installs both domestic and commercial, Prewire and fit off of new homes and renovated homes, and commercial solar installs.
In the last few months I have taken on some more responsibilities within the business as my boss has been in Australia working, this has allowed me to run projects and also teach our apprentice some skills.
I started my electrical apprenticeship here in early 2019 mainly completing various new built homes in a modern subdivision, I’ve worked in cold store freezers for ICE PAC and Tegal completing maintenance on the refrigeration generators, Installed various types of heat pumps and ducted air cons, Regular testing and tagging of industrial sites, Small experience with Solar Systems, Conduit and Pipe Laying for under ground services.
