The visit from the Special Rapporteur that I had the honour to lead was recognised as setting the global Gold Standard for Special Rapporteurs' visits by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Following the visit, the Circular Economy Division received a letter from the Australian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, stating that the performance from our team was "nothing short of exemplary" and received the "highest praise" from the Special Rapporteur and the Senior Officer from the Human Rights Commissioner.
The process used to organise and coordinate the visit is now being used by DFAT as the guideline and benchmark for all future Special Rapporteurs' visits in Australia, and to establish the National Mechanisms for Reporting and Follow-up to the UN.
