Homeschooling my son with Asperger's syndrome. from year 8-year10. This involved safe integration with socialisation and integration through small church kids groups, attending events for arts, crafts, and sports. The school subjects were curriculum approved by board of studies. Before this I supervised him doing year 7 through long distance education. The following year he completed year 11 doing an external Tafe course and then went back into secondary high school for year 12, his confidence had grown, he made friends and received his HSC certificate.
I was 112 km up the Berbice River from the closest town. Transport in and out was a 13-15 hour boat ride. My duties involved attending to Pirana bites, cleaning and dressing wounds, caring for patients who were on complete bed rest. Being on 24 hour call for emergencies on and off campus. I became even more proficient using gauze, bandages, saline, hydration peroxide, and other antibiotic creams. Examples of nursing care-
On multiple occasions I was responsible for the welfare of a student who suffered psychotic episodes while waiting for transport to be arranged for her to go back to her family. Examples of community work-Involved in regular visits, welfare checks, supporting a family late at night due to family issues involving domestic violence.
