Support Worker - Full Time

Women With PCOS
Katoomba, NSW
01.2003 - 11.2008
  • One achievement that I hold dear to my heart and am very proud of is my work with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. The impact of PCOS is endless and unfortunately infertility, weight gain and even miscarriage are just some of the most common side effects this condition bears.
  • Being a long time suffer myself of this syndrome I was very passionate in my achievements for supporting other women. With passion in my heart and a true enthusiasm I created a website for easy accessibility for other suffers and supporters to have easy accesses to information, treatments and supports through this journey.
  • Additionally, to this website, I linked women together through support groups created by myself to ensure they were encouraged and always had someone to lean on, talk to and knew their journey. These support groups were of great comfort, to be able to share, seek comfort and learn from each other brought them one step closer in the healing process.
  • Created 3 online support groups for women with PCOS.
  • A general support group for women with PCOS.
  • A support group for women who were trying to concieve.
  • A support group for women who have had children - another general support group but for women who had children. A safe place for them to talk about children without upsetting women who hadn't had any children.
  • I took pride in raising awareness of PCOS through the media. I managed to secure a segment on A Current Affair to ensure public understanding and exposure of this Syndrome. Cosmopolitan Magazine and The Blue Mountains Gazette Newspaper also took my story and published it.
  • While my voluntary work was basically full time working from home, as I received over 300 emails per day and provided online support, additionally my efforts were put towards trying to achieve some relief for these suffers. I organised outings, women’s groups and just plain meetings where we were all able to come together for debriefings and feel supported.
