Work History

Project Director

Brisbane Airport Corporation
01.2016
  • Company Overview: BAC was part of the first tranche of major airport privatisations.
  • In 2016 in recognition of the steady progress in the physical delivery of Brisbane’s New Runway (the Phase 2 Project works), I was refocused as the Project Director for what was termed Phase 3 of the New Runway Project – the Airspace design and approvals process.
  • While this change was initiated 4 years prior to the target construction completion date for the new runway, in hindsight, the Phase 3 timeline proved to be quite tight and challenging.
  • With BAC carrying the investment risk for successful delivery of the Runway Project and a resulting unconstrained operational environment, I was under clear direction to assume control of the Phase 3 process to ensure outcomes and timelines.
  • An Airport leading such a process was quite radical and had the potential to create conflict with the traditional responsible Agency – Airservices Australia, however the actual outcome was a strengthening of the respect and commitment with that organisation, both for the process initiated and the value of the Airport’s inputs to design and communication criteria.
  • I identified, established and Chaired a Project Governance structure that fostered a collaborative and committed participation by Airservices Australia, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Regulatory Agencies and the Airlines that was instrumental in an exemplary and highly successful Project outcome.
  • The Brisbane Airport Project Governance precedent – the Parallel Runway Operations Steering & Implementation Group - (PROSIG) has been recognised as setting a benchmark for such processes and has been largely investigated and emulated for like projects.
  • BAC was part of the first tranche of major airport privatisations.
