  • Developed and delivered training to introduce researchers to key cloud concepts
  • Developed resources to bring develop new cloud trainers at Universities across Australia
  • Contributed code, chapters and fixes to the OpenStack First App Guide aimed at software engineers

  • Created a system to automate and manage researcher allocation requests for both storage and compute access

VeRSI and the V3 Alliance were not-for-profit agencies established by a consortium of Victorian Universities to provide high performance computing and software development services to researchers in the state.

When working there, Martin:

  • Evangelised new OpenStack cloud projects into the National eResearch Collaboration Tools and Resources (Nectar) Project community. This work required community engagement, application integration, documentation, sample applications, deployment scripts, templates, and web-casts, all of which showcased the new features;
  • Contributed documentation and code to the OpenStack upstream community;
  • Was a Senior Developer on the team doing the initial deployment of the National Research Cloud (Nectar), Australia's national OpenStack based research cloud;
  • Was team lead on a project to migrate the tDAR archaeological repository to run on the Nectar cloud, adding significant features and application integrations;
  • Was team lead on the La Trobe University Australian Historical Archaeology Database project;
  • Worked on the team charged with porting the Galaxy/Cloudman biomedical application suite from AWS to the Nectar cloud;
  • Created and presented several introductory and advanced tutorials on OpenStack to researchers.
