Innovation Manager, Head of Innovation and Strategic Engagement

The Law Society of NSW, Australia’s largest legal professional body, representing over 32,000 members and providing representative and statutory functions. Reporting to the Director of Membership and Engagement and the CEO, my responsibilities encompassed three primary areas:

1. Innovation

Responsible to ensure that the Law Society is perceived as innovative member organisation with trusted purpose, through two main strategy components, that I lead and managed:

  • Internal Innovation: Developed a case for change, fostered an innovative culture and implemented operational efficiencies to enhance client experience (CX). Led the CX project, overseeing strategy development, website and call centre improvements, change management, process enhancements, and technology implementation.
  • External Innovation: Supported legal professionals in their innovation journey by providing a neutral voice to demystify and identify practical applications of innovation and technology, including explaining associated regulations and ethical responsibilities. This involved managing various initiatives such as panel series, roadshows, conferences, strategic alliances, working groups, committees, and online resources. Developed and managed programs like Future of Law and Innovation in the Profession (FLIP), Practice Support Hub, Innovation Hub, and AI Taskforce.

2. Commercial and strategic partnerships development and management:

  • Drove strategic integration, management, and growth of The Law Society's commercial benefits program through strategic partnerships.
  • Provided internal and external reporting for risk management, strategic planning, forecasting, budgets, and return on investment analysis.
  • Cultivated strategic partnerships and alliances with universities, state and national regulators, member associations, and external representatives to support the Law Society's strategic plan, direction, reforms, and sector-wide issues.
  • Managed contracts ranging from 1.3 million to strategic alliance contracts without specific monetary figures, ensuring alignment with strategic and risk management objectives. Procured providers by developing comprehensive Request for Tender documentation and overseeing performance management of strategic partnerships.
  • Managed staff, including Strategic Partnership Manager, Strategic Partnership Coordinator, and In-house Segment Manager.

3. Product development and strategic advice:

  • Actively contributed to the development and implementation of various strategic plans and Membership Strategy. Developed and project managed Innovation Strategy, Diversification of Revenue Strategy, and CX Strategy.
  • Provided strategic advice and support to enhance product, service, and activity offerings for members, effectively communicating these via multimedia channels.
  • Coordinated multidisciplinary teams throughout the entire product lifecycle, from concept generation to commercialisation.
