• Thoroughly passionate about visual art, took it as a subject in highschool and scored an A throughout. Specialise in charcoal drawings and pencilwork. My relationship with art has grown tremendously through taking it as a subject in school. Previously, i had the misconception that i lacked any artistic touch, but through giving it a chance in school, i learnt not to limit myself and to always keep an open mind. This has thoroughly helped me in my day to day life in terms of building relationships with the people around me and the experiences around me. I'd say i have become a lot more exposed and challenged through taking up this subject.
• My hobbies include, collecting vintage vinyls and listening to music. My favorite artists, being Oasis, Nirvana, Jeff Buckley, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Beatles , Pink Floyd, The stone roses and many more. i'm extremely enthusiastic about music, constantly venturing into different and diverse genres of music. I feel music is a powerful manifestation for me to feel inspired and get creative in different areas of life. I have made many memorable life altering experiences through my love for music such as new friends and even discovered more about myself as a person. It has also encouraged me to embrace my individuality and identity.
• I am passionate about literature and always picking up a new book to read. I have just gained entry to The University of Western Australia and plan to take a bachelor of arts undergraduate degree. I am extremely devoted to my love for the english language and express myself best through writing. I practice journaling everyday and find myself writing reviews for books i have read on Goodreads. I feel that reading has grounded me as a person, allowing me to think outside the box and challenge the norms and idealistic approach to situations. i would consider myself a very opinionated person and always seeking opportunities to have a conversation with people from different walks of life. Reading has allowed me to build stronger relationships with the people around me and myself. It has shifted my perspective and brought a whole new meaning to the saying "not everything is black and white". Reading has also encouraged consistency in my life as i often find myself in pursuit of a new book to read once completed with a current one. I have also learnt how to step outside my comfort zone via reading, challenging myself critically and emotionally, by reading books that would usually not have peaked my interest and often times motivate myself to finish the book even if i am not enjoying it. This has allowed me to be more patient and empathetic with my surroundings, as well as more rational in my decision making skills, avoiding the tendency to jump to conclusions and make assumptions.
• self-proclaimed, i am an absolute cinephile. Film and TV has shaped my ever-changing adolescent perspective. i have since become more exposed to the world of popculture, art and history through divulging into movies of diversity. i enjoy watching black and white movies, as well as movies from the 80s and 90s and even current movies. Watching these films has motivated me to challenge myself creatively in all areas of life. I have even considered another career pathway via my pending undergraduate degree, such as a career in screenwriting. My combined love for music and literature blossoms my love for film. My friends and i often write reviews on Letterboxd, the app, after watching a movie and discuss our opinions on said films. Being an avid film and TV fan has also inspired me in my writing. i've participated in several short story writing competitions in my high school days and enjoyed the process of formulating storylines and creating characters. more than just an escape from reality, it has become a method of seeing things from a third party stance, looking at mundane and common everyday problems in life from a bird's eye view and applying that level of perspective in my own life.
• Additionally i enjoy taking photos. Although i have never ventured into professional photography by any means, my father and i have always shared a love for it. In primary school i had entered a photography competition with my dad held by my school. Although i did not place, it was a great opportunity for me to get creative in terms of understanding what perspective means behind a lens and how to play with lighting and surroundings to capture what beauty means to one from their own point of view. I find picture taking a fulfilling way to capture memories and emotions and always find myself taking pictures of my friends and myself. I have also had the opportunity to be the subject behind the lens, having participated in photoshoots for free lance modelling. I feel that i have a strong relationship with capturing the camera's attention and focus, being the subject, whilst also having experience behind the lens, i am able to understand the meaning of observing from a distance and capturing moments from my own perspective, which has also encouraged me to ditch the idealistic standards of beauty and see beyond that and understand what beauty means to me.
