As a newly graduating Registered Nurse, my hope is to initially gain broad knowledge and experience across various wards and specialties, building skills and safe practice within the Hervey Bay Region.
Compassionate and empathetic in nature, my tertiary degree has taught me how to balance not only effective patient-orientated care using current, evidence-based practice through respectful communication and attitudes, but also real world skills to efficiently collaborate, prioritise and coordinate competing nursing tasks in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Although never having worked in the medical industry to date, my extensive administration background has taught me valuable transferable skills such as effective communication, negotiation and prioritisation. I have also learnt to be exceptionally caring, attentive and organised as parent to two young children alongside studying my degree while my husband worked away for long periods.
Clinical placements have proven my strength in clinical knowledge and technical abilities such as competency in electronic medical record charting, safe medication administration, practice and technique in various clinical assessments and care procedures, and interdisciplinary collaboration focused on optimizing patient care and support in line with organisational policy and values.

Passionate to work within antenatal and maternity care, neonatal, special care and paediatric care units, I anticipate continued study in the coming years in a post-graduate Midwifery degree, alongside practicing as a Registered Nurse, with the ambition of assisting women and children within our beautiful Fraser Coast region.

Notable Experience:
> This placement taught me a lot about multidisciplinary communication and personal resilience. I started this placement with low confidence and was unfortunately placed with a difference buddy RN each shift resulting in little continuity of learning. I gradually learnt to trust my own skillset and worth, and gained confidence to seek tasks and learning opportunities using a combination of learning styles my buddy RNs had illustrated.
> Clinical skills gained: Safe medication administration and knowledge, IV infusions, personal cares and communications with patients and families, diabetic education and insulin administration, bariatric cares, various psychological effects on patients in alcohol and drug withdrawal and how to effectively negotiate with them to remain compliant with cares, delirium, dementia, various precautions, wound care.
> Notably, I was the student nurse to find my patient passed (expectedly) on my shift. I was proud of how I handled this encounter as my buddy RN was having a particularly hard day and wasn't prepared for the timing of this passing, however I was able to remain calm and level headed and also keep her calm during this upsetting moments.
