I am a proud Gunditjmara women who has worked majority of my working life in education. and understand the importance of what it means to be an Aboriginal person in the education system, as well as advocating, supporting and culturally strengthening not only children and young people, but mainstream education services.
The Koorie Cultural Advisor works closely with schools in the region to advocate for the educational and cultural needs of Aboriginal students in out-ofhome care. The Koorie Cultural Advisor draws on the capacity and expertise of the Koorie Education Coordinators (KEC) and Koorie Engagement Support Officers (KESO) to have a comprehensive and consistent approach to supporting Aboriginal students in out-of-home care. The LOOKOUT Centre Koorie Cultural Advisor works closely with CPP, case managers and schools to ensure the development of appropriate cultural plans for all Aboriginal children and young people in out-ofhome care1 . A cultural support plan is a tool CPP use to maintain or strengthen Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children’s connections to their families, communities and culture.
