  • I supported Emma Barrett through two different organizations and also as an independent support worker when Emma moved into her own unit. Emma had Prada Willi Syndrome and required constant support to ensure her safety around food. In the later stages of life as Emma's body started to fail, she had desires she wished to fulfill. Travel, nightclubs, health and fitness, independent living and a social life. Along with 4 other ladies we did our best to give Emma the life she so badly wanted before her passing. Round the clock care which eventuated in Emma being able to have 3 hours a day of independence in her unit. We would be close by if Emma needed us but she relished having her own time and using her learnt skills.
  • As Emmas health deteriorated, all carers learnt how to support Emma with new aids such as breathing apparatus, Leg pumps for oedema and lymphatic drainage techniques, skin dressings and to also assist Emma in new ways to get around and live her best life.
