Scope: My role with S
Lowe and Sons focused on planning and carrying out the day-to-day operational aspects to maximise the productivity and profitability of the banana farm
Key to the role was maintaining a flexible approach and being detail-oriented while working in a dynamic environment with constantly changing priorities
Some of my duties included manually planting, cultivating, harvesting, packing, and maintaining crops, supervising and training farm staff, operating and maintaining tractors and other machines, performing farm maintenance and packing fruit in an efficient, safe, and quality manner
Duties include:
Planting and harvesting bananas in a safe, efficient manner, ensuring productivity and quality goals are met
Desuckering, deleafing, stringing and cutting bananas
Installing irrigation and ensuring its maintenance by conducting field check for blockages
Bagging bananas using a cherry-picking machine / bagging machine to ensure bananas have minimal insect and sun damage and top-quality fruit
Injecting a chemical mixture into the bell of the banana bunch to control thrips
Packing and loading harvested products
Operating tractors, trucks, cherry-picking machine/bagging machine, and other machine and equipment in a safe and responsible manner while maintaining it in good operating condition
Understanding and adhering to all food safety practices and good agricultural practices in daily work
