Michael Vaschina

• Conducted routine cytogenetic laboratory techniques with strict adherence to laboratory protocols and accreditation standards (G-banded karyotyping, FISH, microarrays, QF-PCR and NGS).
• Analysed routine cytogenetic test results (chromosome analysis, FISH, microarrays and QF-PCR) on various tissue types to assist in genetic diagnoses for patients.
• Assisted in upholding and updating quality control processes for laboratory accreditation requirements.
• Trained new staff in various sample preparation and cytogenetics laboratory techniques methods.
• Promoted and encouraged safe laboratory practices for colleagues via voluntary health and safety representative role.

In February 2020 I started as a technician in the Cytogenetics department (prenatal team) and continued in this role until June 2023 when I was promoted to a scientist position.

I continued my graduate training at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital laboratory and worked as a multidisciplinary technician from July 2018 to December 2019.

I began my employment with Pathology Queensland in Rockhampton as a medical laboratory technician in the highly-regarded Graduate Program and was trained in haematology, transfusion, biochemistry and microbiology.
