BMO Responsibilities:

Ensuring that Asset Protection Zones meet NSW Rural Fire Service standards.

Liaising with staff at the NSW Rural Fire Service, as a representative of Shoalhaven City Council.

Recording proposed and completed maintenance actions on the NSW Rural Fire Service ‘Guardian’ application.

Liaising with other sections of Council to achieve a high degree of Environmental and Cultural awareness as appropriate to works being carried out.

Obtaining quotes and engaging contractors to carry out maintenance of Asset Protection Zones.

Scheduling ongoing maintenance and Inspecting Asset Protection Zones to ensure that contractors are meeting required standards.

Ranger Responsibilities:

Implement and administer the provisions of all relevant legislation and ensure Council’s responsibilities in relation to these Acts are met

Undertake patrols, inspections and regulate companion animals (including microchipping, registration, dog attacks, dangerous dogs, restricted breeds, seizure of animals, barking dogs, leash-free areas, liaison with pound staff, breaches of legislation)

Patrol and regulate council controlled lands and property to ensure they are free of abandoned vehicles, illegal advertising, waste dumping, roadside traders and other obstructions

Undertake parking duties on public lands- on-street, council regulated car-parks and school zones

Protect the environment, attend pollution incidents and provide pollution control advice, whilst proactively patrolling, and promote ranger services in the community

Prepare and issue letters, warnings, penalty infringement notices, notices, orders and briefs

Provided education of personnel, issuing intelligence based tasking, training Assistant Rangers and coordinating and implementing changes within the Unit.

Crewman responsibilities:

High volume incendiary hazard reduction of multiple national parks and reserves across NSW.

Safety Instruction of passengers.

Teaching NPWS and Rural Fire Service personnel in winch and hover operations.

Winching of people and equipment from aircraft in training and operationally.

Refuelling of aircraft.

Resource Management, ensuring job specific items are stowed correctly on the aircraft.

Calculating loads, sling loading and weight distribution to ensure safety when in the air.

Representing NSW NPWS in Command Posts during Fires.

Acted as the Helipad Manager at major fires involving multiple aircraft.
