I have a keen interest in Support Work, I have been in this industry for the last five years. I have been volunteering in the community in related activities for years now and am very passionate about this field of work. I have completed my Certificate 3 in Individual Support (Aged Care.) I garnered experience within the industry as a trainee in Juniper, Bentley and current role support worker, Senses Australia. I am pursuing further studies in the field of NDIS such as auditing and positive behavior support. Within my role I cared for service users requiring support with all aspects of daily living. I also had the opportunity to support clients living with several challenges including cognitive and physical disabilities. I have specialized in Auslan, working with the deafblind in the community and at home, guiding and tactile hand under hand communication. I am keen to find a full time or part time engagement in the disability industry.
I have participated in deafblind camp with a client that has sever hearing and sight loss. The lack of understanding of his world means he is triggered by the slightest change in motion, routine and anything that can be quantified as change to him is enough to be upsetting. I navigated the new environment and maintained his composure by identifying triggers and altering his environment as necessary. His care plan was followed precisely to ensure he did not have escalations. We had to find alternate ways to communicate and log incidents to keeping the team informed with all the emerging triggers and solutions being imlemented.
