Completing my Registered Nursing Degree at Waikato Science and Technical Institute in 1993 I returned back to my home town of Gisborne to start my first hospital employment at Gisborne Hospital in the Medical Ward 5. Following this I worked at Te Puia Springs Hospital in the General ward after which I joined the Public Health Unit and worked mostly in schools as a Public Health Nurse.
After five years I decided to have a change of pace and moved on to work in the Emergency Department at Waikato Hospital. After which I started to take fly in fly out contracts in Australia , working in Remote Country Hospitals and Indigenous Community Health Clinics that are Nurse run and attended by Royal Flying Doctor Services on frequent visits for GP clinics. I have recently been working at Sir Charles Gardner Hospital Emergency Department on the casual pool in between the Rural Remote Nursing contracts and at Peel Health Campus General Surgical Ward and Fiona Stanley Hospital Orthopedic ward. Durring the Covid 19 pandemic I was instrumental in testing at a public testing station and later co ordinated a covid vaccination clinic.
Recently I have decided that I would return back to New Zealand firstly to be closer to my daughter and family and secondly to pursue permanent long term employment preferably community based as I am inspired to commence my study in Nursing Masters focused on Community based Nursing.
I am of Ngatiporou heritage, was born in Gisborne attended Gisborne Girls High School allowing for a genuine connection and appreciation for the Cultural aspects that are significant to families that live in the Tirawhiti District having been my home up to 2012.
I enjoy the simple things in life and tend to opt for less fuss grounded lifestyle which is part of the reason I am looking forward to returning.
