Summary
My desire of becoming a nurse started at an early age, as I watched my mother study and become a skilled and compassionate Enrolled Nurse. After completing year 12 at Tumby Bay Area School, I studied my Certificate III in Aged Care. Shortly after completion of this, I received my first job at the Tumby Nay Hospital and Uringa Hostel. Once I commenced this casual position, I also commenced studying my Registered Nursing at the University of South Australia, to which I did externally, whilst working in Aged Care.
I began my Registered Nursing career at the Port Lincoln Hospital straight out of University in 2019. Throughout the years I have gained many invaluable nursing skills, built fantastic work place relationships and a strong sense of helping the new-comers succeed in any way possible.
I have been lucky to work in all areas within this hospital, including both EWA, EWB, assisting in all aspects of nursing including palliative care, mental health, surgical and theatre nursing, special care and emergency to finally landing in Renal, which is where half of my current fte is spent.
Working here through vast staff shortages, and during Covid-19, I have gained a strong sense in helping those in this career who need it. Our graduates are our future, and Port Lincoln Hospital deserves our graduates to stay after their TPPP are complete. I believe by aiding in their learning, will give them the confidence and desire to expend their nursing development to be able to work regionally, thus aiding in the Hospitals staffing, and high level of care we currently provide.
