Empathetic and dedicated nurse with over 10 year+ history, having worked across multiple areas including aged care, acute medical, rehab, mental health, and now addiction nursing.

I am particularly passionate in providing care and support to consumers experiencing addiction and mental health issues and was awarded the Amy Enderlin Award in 2023 for Exemplary Contribution to Nursing Excellence in this area.

I have a special interest in working with youth and young adults experiencing mental health and substance use issues and plan to continuing developing my scope to provide exceptional care in this area recently participating and collaborating in a working group for youth AOD.

  • Reporting to the Service Director provide Leadership, organisation, and management of two community clinics and a hospital team comprising of 41 staff in total and approximately 450+ consumers accessing AOD services across the Gold Coast

  • Closely monitor consumers post detox for deteriorating mental health linked to dual diagnosis and/or re emergence of trauma and implement strategies such as mental health reviews, psychology referrals, peer support referrals, support group referrals to improve consumer outcome and reduce risk of substance relapse
  • Collaborate with AODS Community or patient’s GP to ensure continuity of care post hospital discharge
  • Provide motivational interviewing and relapse prevention counselling related to substance use and stages of change
  • Provide consumer education including, harm minimisation strategies, mindfulness, CBT, medication education and health promotion strategies to improve physical and mental health and wellbeing ensuring to tailor education based on the client’s literacy and/or cognitive function, for example medication dispensation into dosette boxes to minimise risk of overdose or mismanagement
  • Provide consumer navigational support to access rehabilitation, detox, and health care related services, financial assistance, housing, medical equipment, and psychological support services
  • Identify and implement strategies to improve consumer safety, guide new clinicians and promote efficiency within the service such as a Long-Acting Injection (LAI Clinic) medication ordering, dose, drug, and prescribing checks
  • Support social inclusion for graduate RNs into a multidisciplinary environment, whilst providing learning opportunities to improve practice through NSP training, BIC and joint assessments with Senior Medical Officers, Addiction Psychiatrists and Psychologists to recognise dual diagnosis and links between trauma and substance use

Quality Improvement Projects

  • 2020 Completion of The National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards board at AODS Community & AODS DABIT. This project was purposefully researched and designed to incorporate visual education and best practice interventions for AOD and Mental Health clinicians in guiding practice and providing safe care for patients/clients. Both projects were tailored to their specific service environments and the clientele most frequently accessing these services, for example DABIT for acute care versus Community for continuing care.
  • 2021 AODS Community Coordination and daily management of Buprenorphine Long-Acting Injection Clinic. Providing training to staff on administration, education, and safety of LAI. Providing patient assessments for suitability in conjunction with AODS senior medical officer, medication ordering, auditing, dosing checks, evaluating outcomes, and providing feedback, maintaining data spreadsheets for safety profiles.
