During this placement I was in the Spinal Injury Unit and I:

• Assisted nursing staff in daily patient care and routine assessments.
• Supported patient monitoring by documenting vital signs and behavioural changes
• Developed proficiency in using electronic health records for patient information management.
• Assisted patients with activities of daily living, mobility, and rehabilitation exercises under supervision.
• Monitored vital signs, conducted neuro-observations, and reported changes to the registered nurse.
• Supported pressure injury prevention through regular repositioning, skin assessments, and use of specialised equipment.
• Observed and assisted with bladder and bowel care, including catheter management and bowel programs.
• Collaborated with nurses, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists to achieve patient rehabilitation goals

• Applied therapeutic communication to build rapport and support consumers experiencing acute and chronic mental health conditions.
• Participated in Mental State Examinations (MSEs) and risk assessments under RN supervision.
• Supported de-escalation strategies and maintained a safe environment for patients and staff.

At my third placement at the Respiratory/Dermatology ward I:

• Assisted in the care of patients with respiratory conditions such as COPD, pneumonia, pneumothorax and asthma.
• Monitored oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, and implemented early warning systems for deterioration.
• Supported oxygen therapy and inhalation device use under supervision.
• Observed and assisted with nebuliser therapy, chest physiotherapy, and sputum specimen collection.
• Educated patients on inhaler techniques, breathing exercises, and lifestyle modifications to support self-management.
• Strengthened knowledge of respiratory pathophysiology, escalation protocols, and holistic patient care.
• Developed medication knowledge
