NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Since 2015 I have been consistently upgraded in both rank and responsibilities across the entire organisation whereby I am responsible for the supervision of all operational units for two (2) major Regional Divisions, Mildura and Bendigo. I have also been commended for my involvement in introducing initiatives to combat Family Violence and bringing into fruition programs and policies that are now utilised by VicPol, and various stakeholders across the state.
  • When in the Family Advisor position, I re-wrote the Koori Family Violence Police Protocols, a document for Mildura police (I also created separate protocols for Swan Hill) providing guidance in how best to respond to Family Violence incidents that involve Indigenous people ensuring the police response is culturally appropriate and specific.
  • In 2018 I was appointed to Detective Sergeant of the newly formed family Violence Investigation Unit. Here I worked with other family violence investigation units and executive command to develop operational frameworks and implement these into our workplace. This enabled a coordinated statewide approach that saw the successful implementation of government initiatives into the response to family violence.
  • I was a finalist in the 2024 Victorian Protecting Children Award.

RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Community Engagement
  • Engaged with various external stakeholders through holding roles in high level strategic external committees.
  • Attended meetings with external stakeholders to ensure an integrated approach to responding to family violence.
  • Maintained partnerships with local Indigenous groups with a view to maintaining Koori Family Violence Police Protocols.
  • Provided a focal point for the interface between operational police units and local support agencies.
  • Established and maintained formal consultative community networks within the division and represented Victoria Police at appropriate forums.
  • Maintained a relationship with Family Violence Command and attended state-wide FVA meetings providing a link between divisional management in strategic planning and developments.
  • Attended RAMP (Risk Assessment Management Panel) meetings as Co-Chair, Deputy Co-Chair and core member – I provided advice and assistance to other RAMP members to ensure an enhanced, coordinated, multi-agency response to women and children experiencing serious, or imminent, threat to their lives as a result of family violence.

  • Identified opportunities to engage in prevention strategies through consultation with the Mallee Family Violence Executive Committee and other external service agencies and individual stakeholders.

  • Through working closely with the community I developed an ability to forecast and address emerging trends and issues.
  • Providing subject matter expertise to support the divisional management, operational members and external stakeholders resulted in more cohesive communal relationships being formed.
  • Co-ordinated, developed and conducted internal training workshops in consultation with the Regional Training Officer enabling a new approach being taken to existing problems.
  • Through monitoring and managing issues relating to family violence within the division I was able to ensure that operational policing units were aware of current issues and the impact of family violence against women, children and the general community.
  • I co-ordinated the dissemination of information, including new initiatives, policies and frameworks relating to family violence within the division and maintained pro-active links to relevant areas of Victoria Police and external agencies as appropriate.
  • Monitoring and providing quality control on the triaging of family violence incidents reported to police.
  • Support the station Family Violence Liaison Officer (FVLO) in respect to the family violence portfolio responsibilities to ensure compliance and a consistent approach to addressing and managing family violence as per legislative requirements.
  • Provide operational leadership in family violence related investigations and provide oversight of the case management of family violence matters reported within the Mildura area.
  • Initiate quality assurance and training on information sharing and exchange with external stakeholders and agencies.
  • Effectively manage and instil leadership capabilities to Divisional personnel and associated human resources, including administrative functions, providing highly responsive and integrated operational policing services within the Division.
  • Taking command at major crime and road policing scenes, serious incidents and events, preparing local contingency plans and coordinating emergency management at municipal or divisional level as directed.
