  • Provided technical drilling advice and drilling management support to all operations in the key focus areas of equipment selection and maintenance, management and evaluation, logistics and supply. Primary focus is to improve safety without impeding drilling production at all Nitro Drilling operations.

Accomplishments

  • I was engaged to oversee and drive the first Gas Drainage Drilling programmes at Kestrel Coal Mine. This resulted in adoption of this process as an ongoing requirement for safe mining.
  • Contributing Member of the Rio Tinto Global Drilling Network, established as a working group engaged across all Rio Tinto commodities, aimed at addressing safety concerns and sharing knowledge, collaboration of the commodities.
  • Providing Peer reviews of other Rio Tinto drilling operations including Drilling processes, Safety improvements within Drilling (Equipment, Procedures and contractor management processes)
  • Volunteered to co-author the Rio Tinto Global Drilling Procedure and the supporting Guidance Note.
  • Custodian and responsible for the Rio Tinto Coal Aust ITS (Introduction to Site for Plant and Equipment) – ensuring equipment is safe and suitable for scope of work, working together with each site MEM for statutory perspective in across Qld and NSW Coal Assets.
  • Technical expert in the drill team with regards to providing technical aspects of drill programmes e.g. development of Breakthrough procedure for complex scopes of work, such as service holes that breakthrough into underground workings
  • Volunteered as Member of Kestrel Coal Safety Committee
  • Developed and implemented Personal Heat Stress calculator – assisted crew members to assess their need for rest and fluid on a 2-hourly basis, circumventing injury and downtime.
