  • Skippering a 12m aluminium two level catamaran with 1000HP (4x 250HP outboards) carrying up to 50 pax out from airlie beach to the iconic Whitehaven Beach, accompanied by 2 snorkel destinations.
  • Reestablished marine department of business (Mostly aviation company that utilised vessel to incorporate "fly in/snorkel packages" into the tour but vessel had been stood down for sometime). I was sole skipper in the company and in charge of all marine aspects and ensuring our tours are running as safe, memorable and as efficient as possible to ensure great reviews at the end of every tour.
  • Updating SMS, Many mechanical/cosmetic/safety upgrades undertaken on vessel to comply with current regulations, preventative and general maintenance schedules created and undertaken, ensuring up to date drills and crew are adequately trained (2Host and 1 deckhand), bad weather calls or alterations, revising of safety protocols/training especially related to in water/beach activities, adjustments to overall tour for a much smoother, professional and fun experience for our guests were some duties performed.

  • A job to really get your customer service and quick decision making up to scratch!
  • Running up to 5 tours at 1.5-2.5 hours per day with a maximum of 6 jetski's trailing behind tour guide, accompanied by a one hour briefing prior to departure as most guests have no license/experience on the water.
  • Extreme vigilance/early precautionary course altering was crucial here as with 6 jetski's following each other within the whitewash at a minimum of 60M apart meant you technically have a 300M long vessel to safely navigate through traffic.
  • Facilitated memorable experiences for diverse groups by tailoring my tours to cater to different age groups, cultural backgrounds, language abilities, confidence levels, fitness and riding abilities while ensuring the tour is as safe, fun and informative as possible for everyone.

  • Lucky to have experienced working in an extremely isolated and unique town for 3 months while on a year long trip around australia
  • Rotating between two vessels conducting eco tours around the world heritage Ningaloo reef
  • Glass bottom boat tours would include 3 tours per day of 30 pax snorkeling and turtle viewing on a 12M glass bottom boat powered by twin 90HP outboard engines
  • A greatly tide reliant service was a nice challenge to have tackled here
  • Manta Ray tours would include minimum 6 hours on the water with at least two snorkel destinations and 3 'deep blue' drop snorkels on approaching manta rays with the help of a spotter plane
  • The vessel was a 12M double story 30 pax flat bottom powered by twin 225's and safely manoeuvring such a wind effected vessel in dominantly 20knot everyday winds was a great advantage to master here
  • All ordering, servicing, problem spotting, mechanical upgrades, sms updating and general upkeep in a land that can take weeks for parts meant you have to be 3 steps ahead to ensure tours will always run and safely

Ticketed Deckhand/Pontoon Caretaker

  • Grateful to have worked as an all rounder deckhand/coxswain in such a diverse company offering Sailing tours on a 85M catamaran, Island ferry connections, Whitehaven beach tours and day/overnight hardy reef snorkel/dive tours via Reefworld/heart pontoon
  • Island connection shift tasks would include prestart/down checks, logging/maintaining vessels, throw/tie/assist docking, crowd management/safety, bar/ticket sales, ordering supplies, porting luggage/mail, train/induct crew etc
  • Camira sailing adventure tours would include careful docking/anchoring/efficient tendering, guide walking groups around hill inlet, life guard/rescue board duties, assist with sails while monitoring customer safety when underway, public speaking/safety demo's, morning tea/lunch/afternoon tea and bar duties, vessel maintenance etc
  • Whitehaven beach tours would include great customer tracking/organising as 3 products are worked into the one 36M cat and 2x 12M tenders, launching/skippering 8M tender, walking/fish feeding guide, usual ferry tasks, passenger medical declarations/safety briefs, prevent/comfort passanger sicknesses, BBQ and beach game's duties, vessel logging/maintaining etc
  • Hardy Reef (Reefworld/Heart pontoon) tour was where I spent most my time in the company working a 7 on/off roster
  • Common tasks would include diver drops from 8M tender 'rails', managing/taxi helicopter operations, lifeguard duties, preventative safety maintaining/measures especially for after hours customer's and gear, logging/maintaining/troubleshooting/fixing both Heart/Reefworld pontoon and auxiliary vessels, addressing/ordering and undertaking mechanical/improvement issues, working with management to maintain fresh/grey/black levels, crew food/supply orders, updating ships log/permits/OH&S policies, managing crew while keeping morale high, training/inducting/running drills with crew, semi submersible (glass bottom boat) tours/guide, bad weather calls/packing, working with emergencies/dangers in an isolated area, etc

  • With only your skipper/host around for hundreds of kilometres made team building absolutely essential here
  • Directing crew, bar managing, operate vessel, public speaking/tour guide, attending to passengers needs/sickness before apparent, maintaining/logging vessel and reporting to skipper to ensure our two 3 hour daily adventure cruises out to the Tasman sea is as safe and enjoyable as can be

  • Our larger 34M 2x750KW (375 pax) would accompany most duties though a mate would be present
  • AMSA logged 1941 hours at sea (SSW,AEIC, INW)
