During my time working in here, I have worked in shifts starting between 6 am to 9 am.

. in the early shift, I was shown how calibration and QC are performed everyday on the biochemical analyser and the importance of regular maintenance. I also have the opportunity to run QC and set up slide stainer in the haematology department.

. I have been trained in sample registration and processing such as using e-collect, the Apollo. I also helped with blood product allocation and transport.

. working with another scientist to gain knowledge and problem solving skills in haematology.

• Gain practical experience in the field of histology, given a chance to practice my embedding and sectioning skills
• Perform block checks, slide allocation and data collection for laboratory information system
• Assist scientist with sectioning
• Change reagents in processing room and staining machine
• Explored the routine procedure and the role of scientists in the collection of biopsy and frozen sections
• Discussed with pathologists on my case studies and was given the chance to attend their seminar on newly researched topics
• Able to perform immunohistochemistry and Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) under supervision
• Have acquired experience in performing special stains such as Perl's blue stain, Gram stain and Colloidal iron stain with confidence
• Routine performance of haematoxylin and eosin (H and E) stain independently.

• Communication with kitchen team members to ensure efficiency of workflow
• Helped keep the dining room clean by pre-bussing tables and quickly handling spills.
