Started livestock business after moving to United States in 1998. Started transporting livestock throughout lower 48 states then grew business into sourcing cattle for both stud and commercial operations.
This then grew to backgrounding cattle for feedlot market mainly in Texas and Kansas and Colorado.
This was a challenging market given industry move to feeding Holstein calves as well as traditional beef cattle.
This work gave exposure to many different breeding and feeding businesses and that experience has been invaluable.
I owned and managed Ashe Park in partnership with my father.
Ashe Park was a commercial and stud simmental cattle farm . We also ran a small self replacing Merino flock. The only cropping we did was for forage and hay . There was a yearly pasture renovation program and land care tree planting done.
I ran the farm until moving to the United States in 1998 . I kept the property until 2002 when it was sold.
Responsible for running Artificial breeding courses for Genetics Australia in Gippsland and Shepparton. I did some beef and dairy extension work for them when the need arose.
I did my own contract work in the dairy and beef industry as a technician doing many thousands of cows in that role.
This role was run in conjunction with cattle property work providing a generous off farm income.
I Joined ADS , a French top making and trading firm,as a wool buyer. I’d had a grounding in the wool industry as my father owned a wool exporting and buying business.
I was responsible for buying wool for export in the auction rooms in Melbourne, Adelaide ,Sydney and Brisbane.
It was a fast paced environment that called for quick decisions and the confidence to stand behind those decisions.
I was employed at Buttabone Stud Park as a jackaroo under the management of David Richards. Buttabone was a large Merino stud and cattle property at Warren in NSW.
We did all our livestock work on horseback and were responsible for the day to day animal husbandry work on a large merino stud . It was a stud that involved the Jackaroos in all aspects of station duties and responsibilities.
