  • This was proceeding smoothly until in early April, when SCV tabled a list of “Must Haves”, several of which could not be delivered within the timeframe or cost

  • For Alinta’s Victorian building consolidation, working on “Move Weekend” with Site Electrical Engineers to overcome major electrical issue affecting every new workstation position
  • 100% success achieved, avoiding massive disruption if users could not have been relocated on time., Working closely with key stakeholders, Nick provided key support to the lead BA responsible for the gathering of evidence to support NAB's Attestation of Compliance to the SWIFT Customer Security Program, a key element in enabling NAB to continue to trade on the international funds transfer market
  • The standard and quality of NAB’s evidence was raised to a level that enabled NAB to achieve full SWIFT Compliance, on time and under budget., and Community Safety (DJCS) provides justice-related services to the community and leads the smooth operation of the justice system in Victoria
  • DJCS planned to digitize the Youth Justice Assessment questionnaires, replacing the current manual processes
  • All development and testing were conducted in-house, and numerous internal issues had resulted in cost overruns, schedule delays and personality conflicts
  • By liaising closely with the developers, testers and key business product owner, Nick slowly improved internal lines of communication, helped developers apply greater focus to unit testing, leading to greater pass rates in formal testing cycles, in turn improving target completion dates and release dates

  • Nick actively participated onsite during multiple, carefully planned, cut-over weekends, ensuring all appropriate tests were conducted and passed
  • Nick ultimately enabled the upgrade to complete on time and under ($2.5m) budget, with zero negative impacts

  • WorkSafe is the Victorian Government statutory authority that administers the Victoria’s Workers Compensation scheme and is the State’s regulator on workplace health and safety with the aim to make all workplaces free from injury, risk and disease
  • WorkSafe had a requirement to implement a new Electronic Documents and Records Management System (EDRMS) for its Insurance Agents, prior to its relocation to Geelong
  • As a prelude to issuing a Public Tender for this activity, WorkSafe needed to have all the business requirements captured and documented, a process that some internal stakeholders believed could not be done in less than one year
  • Nick assembled a team of 4 BAs and established a daily Scrum / weekly sprint approach, by which;
  • Workshops were held to elicit requirements; requirements were then documented, reviewed by internal SMEs, edited and corrected (2-day turnaround)
  • A total of 8 BRS documents were produced in 9 weeks on schedule
  • Independent peer reviews were conducted to maintain quality assurance
  • Project was completed on time and on budget

  • Nick’s key achievements for Tabcorp Gaming Division:
  • Responsible for upgrade of Gaming network infrastructure from DDN to IP network
  • Identifying a working solution, testing and implementation
  • This involved sourcing, evaluating and assessing a ‘black box’ solution (inexpensive option) against an IBM team working to re-engineer the Gaming system communications protocols to enable migration of the entire Gaming network from serial communications to an IP-based infrastructure
  • All Gaming venues successfully migrated to new IP network, ensuring no business loss due to Telstra decommissioning of DDN network, using the ‘black box’ solution
  • Alternative option costing >$25m extra avoided
  • Nick’s key achievements for Tabcorp Group Technology Division:
  • Successfully migrated Core Corporate systems and 5000 Wagering and Keno Venues to new IP network

  • Nick selected by the CIO to participate in a 5-day offsite workshop key at Aitken Hill to identify and scope the IT work required to split out Casinos from Tabcorp, whilst still maintaining essential services for those services that would take time to replicate/replace
  • Workshop identified the systems that could be replicated quickly, and high-level work breakdown structure necessary to complete, costed
  • Workshop further identified those systems that would take time to replicate/replace and established a ‘Technical Services Agreement’ (TSA) model for Tabcorp to continue providing such services until no longer required
  • There were separate TSAs for each such service
  • Workshop established costs for these TSAs, and target timelines for transition to self-management (for Echo) - i.e
  • Cessation of TSA

  • Perth Relocations: Managed a team of 5 project managers responsible for the relocation of several Perth Alinta sites, two Data Centres and Gas Pipeline Control Room in Perth to new facilities in Perth CBD, including creation of a “ring-fenced” physical and IT environment for DBNGP Asset Owners
  • Coordinated site consolidations (IT infrastructure) across Australia following acquisition of Agility business from AGL
  • Resolved major electrical issue the weekend of major move of 500 people to new Axxess Park building, avoiding significant business disruption
  • With Perth relocations, involving 700 people, were able to “stand-down” the support teams at midday on Day One as no issues remained to be resolved, successfully achieving minimal business impact

NAB Internal Award for project success

NAB were looking to update their  Identity Access Management System and 3 previous project managers had failed to deliver a successful outcome. Nick was engaged and re-baselined  all aspects, brought together a strong team of expert technicians and, after overcoming significant difficulties, finally delivered a successful outcome, resulting in both he and his Delivery Manager receiving an Internal Recognition Award for excellence in Project Delivery.
