At this urgent care dental practice I have been able to further utilise and enhance my nursing skills learnt both in theory and in training such as triaging and managing patients in distress, excelling my communication skills with the team to treat the patient in a timely manner. As well as:

• Providing chairside assistance during dental procedures, anticipating clinician's needs and preventing interruptions by preparing necessary instruments and materials before appointments and reassuring anxious patients.
• Maintained detailed patient records accurately, ensuring data privacy regulations compliance and facilitating seamless coordination among dental staff.
• Actively contributed to a positive work environment by fostering open communication, teamwork, and mutual respect among dental team members.
• Coordinated insurance billing processes smoothly, resolving any discrepancies promptly for hassle-free payment experiences for patients.
• Managed dental emergencies calmly, providing prompt assistance to the dentist while comforting distressed patients.
• Educated patients on proper oral hygiene and nutrition and provided instructions for brushing, flossing and other preventive care.

This was an integrated holistic health practice from which I was able to get a better understanding of a holistic approach to health and assessment and management. Primary patients were anxious patients referred to the clinic by their GPs and general dentists, working closely with other allied health providers to provide a patient-centred care. This enabled me to enhance my knowledge on:

• educating patients on good oral health and myofunctional exercises to improve sleep and adopt a healthy routine
• Successfully assisted dentist by performing four-handed dentistry and other chair-side duties.
• Maintained detailed patient records accurately, ensuring data privacy regulations compliance and facilitating seamless coordination among dental staff.
• Maintained a clean and sterile work environment to prevent cross-contamination and infection.

I completed my placement at this hospital and received training in surgical (pre-operative, theatre scrub scout, post-operative wards), chronic and acute illness medical wards, mental health and palliative wards. My training here equipped me with:

• Working alongside experienced nursing professionals to learn new procedures.
• Administered medications via oral, IV, and intramuscular injections and monitored responses, ensuring patient safety and wellbeing.
• Participating in hands-on clinical training under the supervision of experienced nursing professionals to refine practical skills.
• Monitoring patient vital signs, reporting any changes to experienced nursing staff.
• Performing regular rounds to check on well-being of patients.
• Implementing infection control protocols to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for both patients and staff members.
• Applied critical thinking skills to identify changes in patient conditions, initiating timely interventions as needed.
• Performing wound care procedures using proper sterile techniques to promote healing and prevent infection complications.
• Actively sought and incorporated feedback from nursing mentors to continuously improve clinical skills and knowledge.

I volunteered during summer term break from studies at this NGO whose focus is ensuring displaced and disadvantaged children are given a safe environment, a family village to live and study in. I received training from the teachers and worked under the supervision of centre manager, the house leaders and the psychologist as an English teacher and activities coordinator. My responsibilities were to ensure the children were receiving a balanced study and play time, working within my scope of knowledge and to further implement a loving environment. During the pandemic I volunteered my time tutoring them virtually.
