Support to Appointed Actuary (AA) – Olivia assists the Appointed Actuary of general insurers in meeting statutory requirements, including preparing the Insurance Liability Valuation Report and Financial Condition Report, for both the Australian and New Zealand portfolios. She was involved in the transition to IFRS 17 accounting standards, including determining the risk adjustment using the cost of capital approach and reviewing their eligibility under the Premium Allocation Approach. Olivia was also involved in the pricing review of one general insurer's intercompany stop loss reinsurance treaty.
Corporate workers’ compensation self-insurance – Olivia has extensive experience in workers' compensation liability valuations for several self-insurers, across multiple jurisdictions (NSW, Vic, Qld, SA, WA, and Tas). Her responsibilities have encompassed preparing claims data, estimating outstanding claims liabilities for a variety of benefit types such as common law damages, statutory lump sums, and other ongoing payments, calculating statutory financial guarantee requirements, and drafting comprehensive reports. She has conducted multiple tail valuations for companies transitioning to or from self-insurance.
Valuation of liability lines – Olivia provided advice to self-insurers regarding their self-insured liabilities for public liability portfolios. Her key responsibilities in these projects encompassed preparing claims data, conducting valuations of outstanding claim liabilities, forecasting future cash flows, and drafting comprehensive reports.
Victorian Department of Families, Fairness and Housing – Olivia was part of the Taylor Fry team developing the Victorian Social Investment Model (VicSIM) to support the Department’s social investment approach. She applied her knowledge of GBMs and GLMs to model usage pathways for Victorians across different service domains, using large, linked datasets. Additionally, she was involved in the COVID-19 effect review and conducted bespoke analyses for outcomes with low exposures.
Medical indemnity insurance pricing – Olivia was involved in the pricing review for a medical indemnity insuer. In this project, she employed R for tasks such as data cleaning and preparing, peer reviewing GLMs and GLMMs used in modelling size and frequency, and emulating the old model provided in Excel to facilitate benchmark comparisons.
TF Labs – Olivia participated in a geo-embedding research project, where she utilised deep learning neural networks to embed spatial data, enhancing its accessibility for advanced modelling purposes.
