- as a deckhand, My job was to ensure that the barges used to transport coal to other AEP facilities were wired together properly, often working independently or with one other crew member. Furthermore I ensured those barges got to and rom their destinations on the river safely. repairing any damage, alongside my other duties such as cleaning and organisation.
- maintained a clean and organised workspace in an often dangerous work environment.
- Worked long hours of physically demanding work, wiring together barges, and maintaining or repairing the boats' equipment.
- exercised interpersonal skills living and working with 8 people for the entire duration of each three week work period?
- managed time effectively to ensure deadlines were effectively met. these deadlines were of critical importance, at times determining the power supply for the state of Indiana and Ohio.
