- Arranged and positioned steel bars, mesh, rods, and framework.
- Read and interpret blueprints to determine the type, size, and amount of steel needed for a project.
- Fabricate and assemble structural steel components such as columns, beams, girders, trusses, stairs, lintels, metal decking and reinforcing bars.
- Position framework members accurately with respect to line and grade using plumb bobs, levels and laser equipment.
- Cut steel pieces to specified dimensions using oxy-acetylene torches or powered saws.
- Assemble structural frameworks by bolting together prefabricated components or welding them in place with electric arc welders.
- Check formwork for accuracy prior to pouring of concrete into it.
- Install precast concrete structures according to specifications.
- Erect formwork for reinforced concrete structures such as foundations, walls and columns.
- Ensure that all tools are used correctly in accordance with safety regulations at all times.
- Load, unload material from trucks manually or by operating cranes, forklifts safely.
- Communicate effectively with other tradespeople regarding progress on jobsite.
- Clean up debris from worksite upon completion of job duties.
