Bond University's Disability Office is responsible for coordinating provision of student support services to ensure identification and implementation of appropriate arrangements for students with disabilities and include following Key Accountabilities - this list is not exhaustive.
Work Collaboratively with Students & University Staff
This role assessed the impact of each student's disability and coordinated the provision of 'reasonable adjustments' to ensure individual students with disabilities have an equal opportunity in accessing and participating in the life of the institution.
Ensured provision of current information and advice to prospective and current students and University staff regarding registration, eligibility for support and support services available for students with disabilities at Bond.
Maintained electronic case notes, regularly reviewed cases and individual student requirements. Managed each individual case and maintained regular contact with students and Bond staff where required.
Coordinate the delivery of specialist support services
Maintained a close and functional working relationship with all stakeholders within and outside the University.
These included:
Students with disabilities.
Student Services counselling staff and medical and paramedical staff.
Admissions staff including Study Abroad.
Student Administration with regard to special examination procedures.
Student Systems & Data staff with regard to the production of reports for use by Faculties and Schools system based information.
Facilities Management staff regarding any physical environment issues.
Academic staff.
External Service Provision.
Professional work practices
The position of Disability Officer required contact with staff and students from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Key here was mutual respect, cultural awareness and cultural sensitivity formed the basis of all professional working relationships. Including awareness and application of policies surrounding Bond University adopted code of conduct for its officers, employees, and agents.
Develop strategies and programs
Collected, analysed and reported on disability services to plan, inform and review service delivery. Lead designated projects and contributed to innovations, action plans and strategies that support the University and Student Success and Wellbeing priorities.
Coordinated information, resources and training for our university community to support development of inclusive teaching and support practices across the university faculties, schools and college.
Maintain and enhance skills
Continual progression of skills and attributes by way of attendance at appropriate training and workshops to successfully meet annual Professional Development Formal Review requirements.
Contribute to quality assurance activities
Demonstrated an understanding of principles of quality assurance and continuous improvement as applied by Bond University. Including ongoing commitment to Bond University's Strategic plan, university policy and quality assurance processes.
Participation and identification of impacts relevant to Student Success and Wellbeing working party. Inasmuch as revision, planning and provision of input for evaluating reasonable adjustments in education, consideration of students with disabilities' independence in accordance with emerging practice
Compliance Requirements
Ensured reasonable steps were taken and promoted via the development of the Accessibility and Inclusion Plan, policies and procedures to mainstay Bond University in its compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act including the Disability Standards for Education.
Perform other duties as required
Managed all administrative and academic advice associated with the role and time management and increasing workloads effectively and efficiently.
