Work Experience

Crew member on commercial and non-commercial boats

After completing a qualification as General Purpose Hand I volunteered as a crew member on a number of yachts in the Whitsundays and then on the Sail Training Ship Tenacious. On these vessels I completed duties as a deckhand sailing the vessels as well as basic maintenance including cleaning and painting, daily equipment and machinery checks and checking safety equipment. There was a high emphasis on safety especially when working aloft on the Tenacious as well as general rope

safety and working with chemicals. Team work is essential to keep the boats running efficiently.
