  • In this role I was responsible for a design and direction of the data warehouse environment for the Banking Division at Macquarie Bank
  • This evolved over a period of years with the following stages: Concept, Pilot – Industry Data, Release 1 – Management Reporting – Fees Reporting, Release 2 - Management Reporting – Loans and Deposits
  • I produced a white paper identifying potential solutions for the current reporting issues such as lack of access to critical business data, lack of control and poor use of IT resources
  • The recommendation was to proceed to pilot a focused subject area in a data mart solution
  • With the success of the pilot, we recommended to establish a full data warehouse solution incorporating a corporate data warehouse with subject data marts for end-user reporting
  • I was the design leader in the following decisions: ETL process/selecting an ETL tool, Selecting a BI tool after an extensive evaluation, Overall design for data warehouse and data mart/s
  • The initial warehouse and data marts, along with specified reports were delivered on time and within budget for the first release

  • In this role I was responsible for a number of projects including: Intranet/Documentation and Online Banking applications
  • In particular: Intranet/Content Management
  • Many divisions within the bank had set up intranets using the Bank’s existing Notes/Domino infrastructure
  • For our group, it was clear that the bulk of the valuable information that was used to support the core business systems walked out the door each night
  • In order to address this situation, we embarked on a plan to firstly design an information management system and then assign key staff members to document the key system areas and lastly conduct seminars to communicate this to the rest of the team
  • My main contributions to this project were: Selecting and designing an environment that could be used effectively by different users, whether it is a remote connection, LAN connection or local to the support laptop
  • Incorporating critical business data such as monitoring batch streams and transaction feeds to key clients
  • Integrating new functionality to the existing infrastructure to enable better control and presentation of documents

  • Version control and automated conversion of source documents

  • The front end being developed using PowerBuilder, the Business Rules engine developed in C typically running on a UNIX server and an SQL database running on any number of platforms

  • My main contributions to this project were: Design and develop new modules for Fee Processing and Unit Pricing, Identify areas of common functionality that could be moved to the Class Library, Liaise with the Technical Architecture team in resolving issues with the Class Library, Identify the issues in migrating existing applications to PowerBuilder 5 and implementing the process using the PowerBuilder Foundation Class structure, Support and advise existing users in effective ways of using the product

  • Initially based on PowerBuilder 3.0 and Sybase, this application was migrated to PowerBuilder 4.0 and Watcom for NT Version 4 in the latter half of 1995
  • The objective of this project was to integrate all of the systems used in their retail outlets into a single POS, allowing information to be shared across all services
  • It is anticipated that this will increase cross-selling opportunities, and provide a better service for Thomas Cook customers
  • Before migration to PowerBuilder 4, all modules went through a redesign process to identify opportunities for performance improvement and ease-of use enhancement
  • In the Foreign Exchange module I identified a number of areas, which lead to a 300% improvement in performance without major decrease in functionality
  • Being a mission-critical application, the foreign exchange module focused on the following areas: client and server resiliency, multi-user transaction management, and optimum performance
