Key outcomes include:
o Project design and implementation of a new 4PL SAAS system, achieving >$5m saving over the contract term (>$1.4m per year).
o Reducing the cost base by >$2m within 18 months of commencement.
o Overhauling the business model - improving cash flow by over $4m per year through changes to the operating model
o Implementation of continuous improvement initiatives, such as design and launch of sustainable packaging into airlines, reducing landfill by 80T per year.
Freechoice is the second largest specialist tobacconist in Australia. A national footprint, with circa 300 stores (260 franchise/31 company owned), the business includes retail, wholesale and vending operations.
Initially hired to manage all retail operations, promoted to take responsibility for the entire trading division, overseeing revenue in excess of $1.4b per year and oversight of 300 stores.
MOCO is a successful independent foodservice wholesaler with a significant eCommerce presence. This role was responsible for leading the Marketing, Procurement, Category Management, QA, eCommerce and Administration teams, which included management of the entire foodservice portfolio, with turnover circa $200M.
Key outcomes included:
o Creation and delivery of the “Accelerate” and “Launchpad” programs - two bespoke industry-leading marketing platforms that increased supplier income by 400% within 12 months of launch.
o Improvement to the inventory position by two stock turns over 12 months.
Freedom Fuels is a successful independent petrol and convenience retailer and wholesaler, with operations in QLD and Northern NSW operating over 70 Company-owned and Commission-agent sites including “Trinity Petroleum”. This role was responsible for negotiation of all supply agreements, category management and marketing for both businesses, which operate independently of one another. Key to this role was identifying profit generating opportunities and implementing strategic plans to achieve these. Financial accountability for over 70 sites, turnover circa of $75M.
Key outcomes included:
o PMI implementation following a >$45m company acquisition, leading the change management process and stabilising the teams across a multisite network (17 stores).
o Building an investment buying model for the business, achieving an additional $170K in GP$ each year.
o Achieving a bottom-line margin improvement of over $550K within first 6 months of commencement; over $1M within the first 12 months; and over $2M within the first 24 months. Delivered over 2.5% increase in GP to the bottom line.
JBS is the world’s largest multi-protein producer and second largest food company in Australia. This role was responsible for leading the department and team of Procurement Officers and Category Managers covering packaging, vehicles, utilities, waste management, safety equipment, chemicals and services. Aligned with Sales and Marketing to improve product margin, stock claims and reputational risk. Key to this role was budget management, achieving cost savings and implementing strategy to realise targets. Financial accountability for combined portfolio in excess of $200M.
Key outcomes included:
o Developing a Joint Business Plan with QUU, including obtaining Government-funded capital to construct a water treatment & recycling plant, resulting in a $1.5M cost saving on the annual water bill.
o 35% in cost reductions from 2014-2015, delivering $7.7M in savings.
ALDI Stores is among the Top 10 Retailers in the world and the 3rd largest supermarket in Australia. I was promoted to a non-executive Director in May 2012, after working five and a half years as an Area Manager. Key responsibilities included developing ALDI’s business strategy, financial management, strategic sourcing, category management, product development, negotiation of supply agreements and marketing, for over 250 sites nationally.
o Designing and implementing a strategic plan that turned around two underperforming stores into the top 10 in the state.
o Achieving a combined category growth of over 40%, a margin improvement of 7.5% and increase of average dollars per retail promotion of over 21% YOY.
Cost reductions:
o Achieved 20% reduction in product returns Vs prior year.
o Development of ALDI’s Strategic Leaders Program – an L&D, RTO style program that improved the QLD/NSW regions expenses by achieving a cost reduction of 0.5% (of sales) within 6 months of launch.
o Working with the Warehouse and Operations teams to deliver a logistic project to significantly reduce transport cost.
o Partnering with suppliers to develop new products and bring them to market. One example sold out within 15 mins nationally and achieved a 295% increase for repeat orders.
o Building two new to industry sites, with highest customer count ever achieved through a grand opening.
