I am a dedicated registered nurse with experience in patient-centered care and therapeutic communication. I have a proven history of cultivating strong patient rapport to provide exceptional care and advocacy. I am capable of liaising and working with a multidisciplinary team, the patient and their parents and families to provide continuous comprehensive and individualised care and education. I have a great understanding of the Standards of Practice ensuring the complete safety and privacy for patients and their families.
Within my role as a Registered Nurse I utilise my:
- Well-developed communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to prioritise, organise and co-ordinate patient care
- Ability to respect patient’s and their families cultures and religions
- Ability to provide breastfeeding and parental support to increase family bonding
- Ability to care for an infant requiring non-invasive respiratory support including NIPPV and CPAP
- Ability to care for an infant requiring central line access, an arterial line, umbilical line access or phototherapy
I have a strong passion for Neonatal care which has grown within the time I have been employed in the Neonatal Special Care and intensive care unit at Royal Darwin Hospital. I aim to continue my professional development within this area to gain further specialised skills and knowledge through my studies at La Trobe University in the Master of Nursing course specialising in Neonatal Care.
Prior to working in Neonatal Care, I completed a New Graduate course in the Emergency Department at Royal Darwin Hospital. Therefore, these opportunities have provided me with diverse and extensive professional and personal growth. I have developed my knowledge and experience in caring for highly complex and acute patients of all ages, with a high population of Indigenous patients
through this my time management and communications skills have progressed.
I've been fortunate to practice as a registered nurse in Darwin with a high Indigenous population which has provided invaluable experience in tailoring care plans to respect Indigenous traditions, beliefs, and languages while ensuring evidence-based neonatal care was delivered. Additionally, I have provided care to newborns and their mothers from rural and remote Indigenous communities, collaborating closely with local healthcare teams and elders to ensure culturally sensitive and appropriate medical practices.
