Working as a Technical Graduate in the Civil Department at KBR has provided me with invaluable insights into the planning and design aspects of civil engineering. This role has allowed me to engage directly with a significant government project in a joint venture with John Holland in the Northwestern Alliance Project. Collaborating on this prestigious initiative has given me a comprehensive understanding of the complexities involved in such large-scale infrastructure projects, including the intricate details of design, coordination, and stakeholder management. My involvement has emphasized the crucial role of government as a direct stakeholder, highlighting the importance of adhering to regulatory standards and delivering high-quality engineering solutions that meet public needs and expectations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Project Involvement:

• Collaboration on direct government projects, specifically focusing on level crossings at Melton and sub-design packages.
• Gained exposure to rail projects and the intricacies of civil design within a high-profile infrastructure initiative.

2. Design and Drafting:

• Design roadworks for the project, utilizing drafting software such as MicroStation, AutoTURN and Drains to create detailed and accurate plans/models.
• Provide engineering judgments and solutions for various sub-packages, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance.

3. Report Management:

• Manage and compile design reports, reporting directly to package leads for roadworks and other sub-packages.
• Maintain thorough documentation and ensure timely submission of design reports for review and approval.

4. Project Coordination:

• Assist in the development of project plans, determining project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
• Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth execution of projects.

5. Engineering Support:

• Offer technical expertise and support to the project team, including reviewing engineering designs and resolving technical issues.
• Ensure engineering solutions are aligned with project goals and industry standards.

6. Standards Compliance:

• Work in compliance with Australian standards, Austroads guidelines, and local council requirements etc.
• Ensure all designs adhere to relevant regulations and best practices.
  

Working as an Undergraduate Engineer at Fulton Hogan Southern Region Construction within the Pre-contracts team has provided me with an opportunity to gain real-life project experience. Collaboratively working in a team with senior estimators and autonomously on projects has inculcated industry-based skills and tender experience in Australia.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Estimated quantities and material costs during project planning to support budgeting and costing.
