In 2022 I opened my own licensed child care business. In this setting I cared for a maximum of seven children each day. I created my own curriculum based on the diverse range of ages and needs I was caring for. Being in this position allowed me to create wonderful and meaningful relationships with the families and therefore build a rapport that allowed for open communication. This role included many aspects and skills which include:

  • Maintaining accurate documentation surrounding licensing requirements ensuring all necessary paperwork is up-to-date regularly without fail.
  • Implementing innovative teaching techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles among students within each classroom setting properly.

In Canada I was certified as a Level 3 Child Development Supervisor. This position allowed be to incorporate my pedagogical knowledge to create and implement a play-based curriculum in an early childhood setting; mainly with children four years of age but the flexibility to work with all age groups. Such role greatly solidified my confidence in the classroom setting mainly in the areas of classroom management and planning. Being a collaborative role furthermore enhanced my skills in coordinating with fellow team members. In this setting I my role included many things but to highlight a few they included:

  • Supporting children with special needs, creating customized learning strategies to accommodate various abilities.
  • Maintaining and fostered positive and constructive interactions with staff, families, and children.
  • Communicating with parents and other staff about student progress.
  • Consulting with parents to build and maintain positive support networks and support continuing education strategies.
  • Developing program plans that best supported the interests and needs of the children while incorporating literacy and numeracy practices.
