With over 24 years of extensive experience in the field of architecture, Raymond brings a wealth of expertise across architectural design, presentation, contract documentation, master planning, and interdisciplinary coordination. Throughout his career, he has collaborated on a diverse range of projects, varying in scale and complexity, across regions including Australia, Hong Kong, China, the Middle East, and the Philippines. Well-versed in building systems and construction techniques, Raymond is also highly proficient in BIM and other computer-aided design (CAD) tools, while maintaining a strong free-hand sketching ability. His in-depth understanding of project deliverables ensures seamless execution from inception to completion, consistently meeting both client and regulatory expectations.
Collaborating closely with the design and project managers to ensure smooth and efficient design documentation delivery throughout all phases of the project, ranging from the High Level Concept stage to the final Construction Issue for Retail Fitout & Refurbishment as well as Design & Construct (D&C) projects. This involves coordinating with multiple teams, managing timelines, addressing challenges, and ensuring that all aspects of the design meet both client expectations and regulatory requirements. Developed standardized drawing protocols and designed custom BIM families tailored to project requirements, enhancing workflow efficiency and consistency throughout the project lifecycle.
Initially worked with the DA team preparing documents for Council approval. Since April 2020, Raymond has been responsible for overseeing the production of construction documents and ensure compliance to quality control and best practices. He helped establish a drawing standard and filing system that enables efficiency in documentation. He has been involved in design development and carry out design sketches from the Design Director. He managed schedules and project timelines to facilitated a smooth flow of documents to purchasing and site. He coordinated with engineering and marketing teams and answer queries from site and suppliers.
Raymond's main task was to assist the director/senior associate in the management, lead and delivery of projects on time. He collaborated with a team that developed the master plan for a transport oriented development (TOD) in Hangzhou, China that won a competition and landed the office project continuity towards schematic design and design development stages. His team developed master plans and hotel design schemes for proposed resorts in Japan, which received initial approval from local authorities and propelled the pursuance of the project. He also did research and data gathering that served as basis for operational and back-of-house space programing for the resort proposals.
An integral part of a four-man design team, Raymond works in close coordination with the associate/design director to formulate strategies and design solutions that meet project objectives and deadlines. His key responsibilities are to develop architectural design schemes for various Hong Kong and Macau projects, translate design concepts into workable three dimensional study models for visualization and further design analysis and the preparation of design presentation packages. He constantly collaborates with the project team, in order to ensure excellence in design quality. His experience with the company comprise of different stages of a project including concept design through detail design, as well as tender and construction documentation.
The design studio's main thrust is consultancy for China based projects which usually translates to fast paced schematic design exercises and project turn overs. As a member of the Hong Kong design team, his main task is to prepare, edit, update and develop approved schematic drawings into comprehensive detailed design packages which would then be turned over to the project team in Shanghai for implementation, propose alternative schemes and design options, and review construction documents from local design institutes.
As part of one of the leading international practices, Raymond has been exposed to the firm’s ground breaking works, acquiring practical knowledge in systemic documentation and drawing standards. As Architect, his primary role entails the preparation of conceptual to design development packages for projects in Europe and
the Middle East. This also includes evaluation of drawings in relation to pertinent codes and standards. He participated in design workshops and coordination meetings with Structural, MEP and other integral consultants. Engineering drawings were reviewed and analyzed to ensure compliance to architectural intent.
Raymond joined QHC during the company’s early inception, making him part of the core team that spearheaded the firm. He played a major role in establishing CAD standards and drawing organization templates for the architectural department. He directly worked under the department head in preparing conceptual, schematic and design development packages. He participated in contract documentation and statutory submission leading to approval. He also ensured that architecture and engineering drawings are seamlessly coordinated.
Raymond started work with GF & Partners preparing contract documents for large-scale local projects in the Philippines. Exposure to working on such building types honed his documentation skills and gave him a clearer overview on the architect’s role in building and construction. Later he gained his on-site construction experience, when his team was assigned to the project site in 2003, for the Market! Market! Mall project. In conjunction with addressing design issues, he was tasked to receive, review and reply to Requests for Information (RFI), evaluate shop drawings and coordinate with quantity surveyors, structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing consultants.
