Since commencing this role I have engaged in the breadth of the Commission's services including legal advice, duty service and grant activities including. I have appeared in Territory and Commonwealth Tribunals, provided advice to and appeared for vulnerable persons at hearings and assisted with the preparation of matters for hearing including preparation of Court documents and briefs.
As a civil litigation lawyer I built my practice primarily in Workers Compensation and Employment Law providing advice to the firms large Institutional and Government clients. With increasing autonomy I advised on employment matters such as misconduct, performance management and termination of employment. In respect of Workers Compensation I advised on quantum calculation, indemnity and settlement options and prospects. Should the matter require, I briefed Counsel, managed the proceedings and prepared the matter for hearing.
Selected through a competitive process, I formed part of a select team to assist in the day to day management of Judge’s Chambers. Dealing with complex and sensitive material, I executed my role with a high level of integrity, discretion and judgment. Among other duties, I undertook legal research, case law summaries and document review while also managing matters both in and outside of Court that required liaising with other Chambers and members of the legal profession.
Seconded from NHMRC to the Australian Academy of Science as the Policy & Strategy Advisor based on specialist knowledge and expertise in peer review, policy development and management of national and international programs of work. Contributing to the pilot program I have managed the recruitment of a third cohort of members bringing in approximately $100,000 per annum in fees and continue to work with external providers to manage the ongoing administrative and legal needs of the program.
As a dedicated member of the NHMRC team, I earned progressive promotions building on my deep knowledge of the health and medical sector. I built experience across the scope of the organisation's responsibilities including policy development and program management. I was responsible for managing an increasingly large and diverse team to deliver national and international funding programs to meet the organisation's commitment to fund health and medical research annually.
