Duty & Responsibility Statement:

• I am an experienced Registered Nurse with 3 years and 3 months experience in Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) and DSU in Maitland Hospital.

DSU/ADMISSION DOS.

• Maintain a friendly, positive and caring attitude with all patients, physicians and staff.
• Utilizes nursing care standards when planning and implementing pt care.
• Completes preoperative teaching to patient and family and initiates postoperative teaching to be completed during the recovery phase.
• Assesses patient status on admission and on an ongoing basis.
• Attend vital signs and pre op check list and get ready patient for theatre.
• Admits patient according to the facilities policy and procedure.
• Obtains laboratory, ECG, and radiology studies requested by the physician according to policy and procedure.
• Administer preoperative medications and monitor patient responses.
• Delivering high-quality post-operative care for patients in recovery and day stay, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and timely discharge, while providing comprehensive post-operative education and arranging follow-up when needed.
• In PACU, we assess the patient's condition on admission to Recovery Room (using the ABCDE approach).
• I Obtain all relevant information from the Anesthetists and the Scrub Nurse on the patient's arrival to Recovery Room, demonstrate the ability to continuously assess and monitor the patient while in Recovery Room, write patient care plans, monitor patients progress, ensuring accurate records of all relevant observations and clinical assessments are kept and take appropriate action as indicated, take out the LMA and observe for any signs and symptoms of airway obstruction, maintains the patient's confidentiality regarding his/her condition upholding the Code of Professional Conduct at all times, communicate effectively within the team, participate in motivating and supporting team members and maintain confidentiality with patients and carers, give written and verbal advice/teaching to patients and carers.
• Providing clinical and professional leadership to the PACU team, mentor student and junior nurses, up to date experience of Critical care/high dependency unit. Skills in pain management, competent in Paediatric and High Dependent Unit patient care.
• Ability to negotiate with a number of people within all disciplines, to provide high quality Patient care, to cope with an ever-changing environment and an unpredictable work pattern, to understand the Effects of the high-pressure environment and when to seek help from both internal and external resources, to maneuver equipment and position patient's safely using MH equipment as available.
• I demonstrate ability to assess patient using the Discharge Criteria utilized in the Recovery Room, ensure all documentation is completed, correct and signed accurately and all relevant information for a comprehensive handover is included to ensure the continuity of care on the ward, demonstrate an efficient and comprehensive handover of all relevant and specific information to the ward staff. During the time within the operating theatres, I have gained a vast knowledge of operative procedures in multiple surgical specialties inclusive of, Gynecology, Obstetrics, Breast Care, Urology, Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery, Upper Gastrointestinal, Colo -Rectal.
• I have completed my BSc degree in nursing. I feel deeply passionate with regards tolearning and I actively try to motivate and promote within my peer environment and encourage junior members of staff.
• Whilst leading the team I have used an assessment, plan, implement and evaluate approach to the list effectively and reflected on my own decision making and situations which may have arisen throughout the day.
• I ensure that I maintain a high standard of documentation as this is an essential component of effective health care communication, clinical documents must be accurate, timely and should reflect specific services provided to a patient. As a professional, I ensure that I have documented everything timely and accurately.
• Recent years due to shortage of hospital beds PACU has been used as inpatient ward many times. That gave me experience in ward based care of patients.

Team Leader Surgical unit

Duty and Responsibility:

• Facilitate the rapid assessment evaluation and commencement of appropriate treatment of patients within my scope of practice.
• Coordinate complex patient care needs and liaise with treating medical teams, allied health, nursing staff, patient, and patients’ families.
• Provide clinical, managerial and leadership guidance to junior staff.
• Liaise with bed managers so appropriate beds can be allocated and delegate patient care appropriately.
• Support staff during clinical reviews and rapid responses, and act as the leader during emergency situations.

Registered Nurse -Surgical unit

Duty & Responsibility Statement:

• Function as a safe and effective member of the Surgical health care team.
• Work as team leader for the ward when required and help in patient flow and liaise with bed managers so appropriate beds can be allocated and delegate patient care appropriately.
• Facilitate the rapid assessment on admission and A-G assessment on deteriorating patients and activate rapid responses or clinical review as needed.
• Coordinate complex patient care needs and liaise with treating surgical teams, allied health, nursing staff, patient, and families.
• Diabetes management.
• Support new grads and students in clinical skills and assess them doing procedures like wound dressing, stoma therapy, bellovac drains monitoring and removal, picc line dressing and administering IVabs.
• Act as resource person in the ward and use current resources to support educational practices.
• Encourage other staff to adhere to current legislative, administrative and organisational requirements to give quality care for all clients.
• Actively engage in all clinical care in the ward.
• Coordinated patient discharge.
• Provide high standard nursing care by assessing patient’s condition, planning, prioritizing, and implementing it. Doing procedures like bladder scan, ECG, BGL, Wound dressing, IDC.
