Work History

CHPP Superintendent

Whitehaven Coal
04.2022 - Current

As CHPP Superintendent I oversee both the Production and Maintenance (Electrical & Mechanical) departments within the CHPP. This roles encompasses eight (8) direct reports and thirty-six (36) indirect reports. As CHPP superintendent I am responsible and accountable for;

CHPP Production Coordinator

Whitehaven Coal
11.2021 - 04.2022

Seconded to the newly created role of CHPP production Coordinator role I was accountable for the following KPI's and deliverables;

CHPP Supervisor

Whitehaven Coal
01.2020 - 11.2021

Productivity Specialist

Interlate
11.2018 - 01.2020

As Productivity Specialist I provided insight, real time decision support and recommendations on process optimization and productivity improvement opportunities for multiple client sites throughout Australia and internationally. Insights, opportunities and recommended operating strategies were derived via data analytics in collaboration with subject matter experts and contextual information provided by key site-based stakeholders.

Commissioning Technician/Processing Supervisor

Auctus Resources
04.2017 - 11.2018

Initially engaged as a Commissioning technician through the construction, dry and ore/wet commissioning stages of the project. I worked as part of a small and highly experienced team of Process technicians who continually monitored and strived to improve and optimise the process in the commissioning stages. This work covered all areas of the concentrator including but not limited to Crushing Operations, Gravity Separation/Concentrating, Milling (SAG & Ball mills & HIG Mill), Flotation and Dewatering/Thickening, Larox Pressure Filtering, Tailings Disposal and Water Systems. Following commissioning I transitioned to the role Process Supervisor where I provide leadership and development of a processing team and directly manage the safe and environmentally compliant operation of the process plant and tailings storage facility to produce mineral concentrates of specific grade in line with production targets.

Fatal Hazard Protocal Adviser/Champion

Glencore
04.2017 - 06.2017

Under secondment to the Safety & Training Department to review and develop the MRM Fatal Hazard Protocol 3 - Management Plan, supporting procedures, processes and systems relating to Confined Spaces and Irrespirable/Noxious Atmospheres and ensuring compliance with regulations and legislative requirements. This role involved much consultation with various workgroups and the management team through formal risk analysis and evaluation.

Senior Process Technician

Glencore
09.2013 - 01.2017

As Senior Process Technician/ Central Control Room Operator I was entrusted with the monitoring and responsibility of the entire concentrator to ensure smooth operation and achievement of key operational parameters as set down by management. This was achieved through use of my knowledge of the plant, equipment, processes and circuitry. I utilise field operators to achieve this by effective delegation of tasks according to priority and the ability to guide operators through tasks by falling back on my experience and knowledge of field operations.

Process Technician

Glencore Mount Isa Mines
08.2009 - 09.2013

As Process Technician I was responsible for monitoring my assigned operational area and circuitry within it and report changes and issues to the Control Room Operator/Supervisor. It was a requirement as Process Technician, that I understood the process and operation of these circuits. I continually monitored the circuit, associated plant, equipment, reported changes and resolved issues as required to achieve maximum metallurgical results with minimal disruptions.

Recommendations

"Richard worked as a Productivity Supervisor providing near realtime decision support for our organisation-wide remote monitoring and analytics program. I was immensely impressed by Richard's energy and commitment to maintain and develop engagement with the site teams. He built trust and engagement through both this positivity and also the top notch decision support he provided to the site teams regarding operational changes. I would happily work with Richard again and have no hesitation in recommending him for similar roles." - James Anstey, Managing Director of Prediktivity and co-founder of SMART!, 2021

"Richard is a dedicated and focussed professional that is constantly looking for even the smallest opportunity to improve a process. His approach of the only silly question is the one not asked, ensures all  bases are covered when seeking hidden value. I found Richard to be a team orientated person that wasn't searching for accolades rather looking to help the team in any possible way. I would certainly look to work with Richard again given the opportunity". - Robert Thomas, Processing Manager - Eloise Copper Mine, 2020

"Richard makes connections that create value. At Interlate, he connected ideas, connected his team mates and, importantly for us, he connected with his clients, which allowed them to capture value. He was on the front-line interfacing with operators and superintendents. His technical skill, leadership and collaborative approach engendered trust, which waas critical for enabling our analytics to turn into tangible value in the form of more product recovery for plant managers. His easy going and helpful demeanour helped lower barriers to getting to the heart of productivity issues. I whole heartedly recommend him for a team leadership and management role'. George McCullough, Principal - Digital, HATCH

Performance

"Richard is a valuable member of my team; I know that I can rely on him to execute best practice at the CHPP." Extract, 2023 Performance Review

"I have very high expectations on Richard. Richard has recently been promoted  to Superintendent. He has the respect and support of the work crews, this has been very valuable as some of the changes whilst very unpopular have been taken onboard well. Richard is always looking for ways to improve and is fostering that mentality onto the Supervisors - this is so easy to see at the pre start compared to 12-36 months ago. Feedback from external Leadership coaches working on Supervisor performance has been highly complimentary, this is due to the new leadership from Richard." Extract, 2022 Performance Review

“Richard’s contribution to the team this year has been immense, without him, this crew would not have progressed as far as it has. The effect of the training, work ethic and culture of excellence Richard has brought to B Crew cannot be understated.” Extract, 2016 Performance Review

“Richard is generally one of the few operators that sets the pace for others to look up to and achieve. Richard is reliable and punctual and has a great work ethic. He does not complain about sharing a workload for someone else and was always assisting others throughout the plant. He was often placed in several areas at once due to his broad knowledge of the plant and willingness to work.” Extract, 2013 Performance Review
